Title: ID: Greyling: Speech by the ID MP in the debate on the National Planning Commission, National Assembly

The Independent Democrats certainly welcomes the creation of this Ministry as we believe that it is vital that we adopt a long term approach towards South Africa's development. As recent events have shown, the world is changing fast around us and we need to be alive to the challenges and opportunities that this change will bring. The ID implores you Minister to give due cognisance to the fact that our model of development needs to be radically restructured to deal with an impending natural resource crunch that the global economy will be subjected to over the next few decades. It is therefore vital that the National Strategy on Sustainable Development is driven by your ministry and that as Thomas Friedman states in his recent book that our ability to outgreen other countries will lead to us ultimately out competing them.
