The Higher Education Transformation Network (HETN) acting on behalf of
its alumni members congratulates the ANC Youth League on its recent
successful congress which was held under the theme: “Unity in Action
towards Economic Freedom in our Lifetime: Rebuilding the ANCYL and
Reshaping the Future”. We want to indicate that HETN has been waiting
for this moment of the 25th National Congress of the ANC Youth League, a
very significant occasion in the history of the Youth movement. We note
that the congress took place at a crucial moment, a few months before
the next local government elections hence the need to mobilize and rally
the youth of South Africa behind the banner of the ANC.
The HETN calls upon the newly elected leadership of the ANCYL to start
working without delay to reclaim its rightful place amongst the youth of
South Africa. We hope that the new leadership will stretch out their
hand to ensure that they work with all the youth including those who did
not support their election. We also call upon the newly elected
leadership to manage the youth league with humility and bring about the
necessary unity and cohesion within the progressive youth movement in
particular and the entire youth of South Africa. We need the wisdom of
all our youth irrespective of the different and critical views they
hold.
The HETN notes that though the election of leadership was necessary, it
was not the only thing that was discussed by the congress. To this end
we welcome the resolutions that were passed by the delegates at the
congress with an understanding that HETN will always be ready to work
with all progressive youth formations including the ANC YL on common
issues of Higher Education transformation in South Africa.
The HETN takes this opportunity to thank the ANC and the National Task
Team for delivering a successful congress.
In his message to the youth of South Africa, comrade Moses Kotane said:
“At this hour of destiny, your country and your people need you. The
future of South Africa is in your hands and it will be what you make of
it”
Indeed the future of our country is in the hands of the progressive
youth formations. We owe it to future generations to dislocate the enemy
of our people. The only way to do that is through servicing the youth of
our country at all levels of society.
