Director General Rams Ramashia said four task teams had been set up with each focusing on agreed themes, which were investment, employment, skills and equity, and local action.
He said in a statement two plenary sessions were held recently where social partners sought to clarify the contents of their respective submissions.
"I was deeply encouraged to realise that there are areas in respect of which inputs of social partners converge," he said.
Ramashia said there were still issues which needed "tough engagement" and discussions would be held over the next two weeks.
"One of the key challenges is to exercise the discipline to prioritise a few key areas where social partners can fold their sleeves and work together to ensure maximum impact.
"Further work will be done in the following week, leading to a National Economic Development Labour Council plenary session scheduled for May 22 where the multi-stakeholder thematic task teams would report to," Ramashia said.
He said a budget of R300 000 had been set aside for the summit but costs were expected to be less than the budgeted amount. – Sapa.
