This was reflected in a sharp increase in enquiries from clients outside South Africa who wanted to check the credentials of job applicants, the company said.
“The meeting between Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and British officials in London recently to discuss false and fraudulent passports has definitely put the cat among the pigeons resulting in a noticeable increase in enquiries from employers abroad,” a statement released by Kroll said.
Another issue for some Kroll MIE clients was the fact that fake South African IDs and passports had been found in the possession of known al-Qaeda terrorists and syndicate criminals.
Department of Home Affairs officials have admitted that South African travel documents were being viewed with suspicion in some countries.
