Grindrod Mauritius, a subsidiary of Grindrod Limited (a global integrated logistics service supplier), has appointed Norton Rose South Africa as its international legal adviser on the expansion project of the Matola Coal Terminal (TCM) in Mozambique, estimated at US$800 million. The expansion project will increase the capacity of the port’s coal and magnetite terminal from an existing output level of 6 million tonnes per annum to more than 20 million tonnes per annum over a period of six years.

Norton Rose Group has strong experience in the areas of international project finance and ports development, including throughout Africa. The team, made up of lawyers from South Africa, London and Australia, are advising on all legal aspects of the project, including project finance, construction, commercial (rail and port), environment and tax, and will be working closely with the advisory team, including Mozambican counsel and Standard Chartered Bank as financial advisers.
Julian Jackson, co-head of the Africa practice says:

“We are excited about being involved in this major infrastructure project, which will benefit Mozambique and South Africa. Grindrod is a leading international infrastructure player and we look forward to combining our African and international infrastructure experience with that of the Grindrod team and making a success of this project.”
