Gauteng Premier David Makhura, City of Tshwane Executive Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa, members of the executive council, community representatives and the National Department of Transport met various stakeholders in Mamelodi following disruptions of Autopax bus services in Mamelodi on Friday, 03 July 2015.

The meeting unanimously agreed that Autopax will continue to render services as per the interim contract agreement while talks with the taxi industry continue. The violence is totally unacceptable and the government will not be held to ransom. More law enforcements agencies will be deployed to protect commuters and residents and to restore order in Mamelodi.

Premier Makhura stressed that the government’s view is that commuters are the primary focus and that they have a right to use a transport mode of their choice based on price, safety and reliability.

Mamelodi residents and commuters expressed their satisfaction with Autopax services and appealed to the government to ensure that calm and order is restored in the area.

A follow-up meeting between the government, transport stakeholders, community organisations and Mamelodi residents will be held in on Sunday 05 July 2015.
