Health Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi has been discharged from hospital this afternoon following his admission to Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria for treatment.

The doctors at Steve Biko Academic hospital assessed the condition of the minister earlier this afternoon and concluded that the worst is over and discharged him from hospital to recover at home. The Minister is responding well to treatment and he is in good spirits.

The Minister thanks all South Africans including colleagues; academics; professionals; friends; relatives and organization for the well wishes during his admission at the Pretoria hospital since Sunday.

Special thanks Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and his wife Mama Leah Tutu for "wishing me speedy recovery at the time when Tata is not well himself. I wish him well. We will continue to put him and the family is in our prayers", Motsoaledi said.

Few weeks ago Motsoaledi visited Bishop Tutu in hospital.

The Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Joe Phaahla welcomes his discharge from hospital and on behalf of the Department of Health wished Dr. Motsoaledi a speedy recovery saying "indeed the worst is over."
