On Monday, 17 September 2018, Government will mark the beginning of the Fifth Annual Thusong Service Centre Week. The 2018 Annual Thusong Service Centre Week takes place in conjunction with the Public Service Month, under the theme: “Thuma Mina “Taking Public Service to the People: We Belong, We Care, We Serve”.

The 2018 Thusong Centre Service week activities will be celebrated in line with the centenary of the life of our nation’s founding father, former President Nelson Mandela, under the theme: “Be the Legacy”. To celebrate the life and contributions of Mama Sisulu, Thusong Dialogues will be implemented at identified Thusong Service Centres. These Thusong Dialogues will strive to better the lives of identified women in their community development path and bring hope to the people. To further tap into the Nelson Mandela Centenary, the Annual Week will focus on the Thusong projects which are implemented at Thusong Service Centres in upholding Madiba’s values.

Minister of Communications, Nomvula Mokonyane said, “We aim to ensure that through Integrated Mobile Outreach Services, and other GCIS platforms government will maximize the reach and access to government services, during Thusong Service Centre Week”.

The Thusong programme has been reaching about six million beneficiaries every year and during the 2017 a total of 74 activities were implemented. During the week, government will also be engaging with the communities in the form of an imbizos to get comments on how to improve the Public Service. Thusong Service Centre are one-stop centre for access to government services and information to potential sponsors and stakeholders across all spheres of government.

Government aims to maintain key stakeholder relations with government departments and private partnerships, and encourage full participation in support of the Thusong Programme, for the benefit of citizens. The closing event for the Thusong Service Centre Week will be held in the Western Cape at Grabouw Thusong centre on Friday, 21 September 2018.

All South Africans are invited to visit www.thusong.gov.za to locate the centre closest to them.
