The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport in partnership with the City of Tshwane will on Monday, 03 October 2016 launch the provincial October Transport Month (OTM) campaign at the City of Tshwane Municipal Offices, Centurion.

The theme for this year’s campaign is: “Modernisation of Public Transport System in Gauteng.” This is derived from the Gauteng Provincial Government’s (GPG) multi-pillar programme of radical Transformation, Modernisation and Re-Industrialisation (TMR) of Gauteng.

The launch will also showcase the province’s sustainable mobility initiatives through the unveiling of two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

The two solar charged EV stations located at the Lyttleton Municipal Offices and the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department’s Logistics Offices in Bosman Street, are part of the legacy project from the Cities Green Transport Programme funded by the Green Fund in 2015. The EV station at the Lyttleton Municipal Offices are available for public use.

The launch will be preceded by a site tour of the Gautrain Pretoria Station and surrounding Public Transport areas by MEC Ismail Vadi, Executive Mayor Solly Msimanga as well as other dignitaries. This is an inter-modal facility demonstrating the benefits of the proximity of transport facilities and services in providing the public with a reliable, accessible, safe and efficient public transport system.

Details of the site visit are as follows:

Venue: Gautrain Pretoria Station
Date: 03 October 2016
Time: 10h30

Following the site tour, the entourage will then undertake the Green Mile convoy to the Centurion Municipal Complex by using electric vehicles and two CNG buses. The Green Mile aims to popularise cleaner transportation as the Gauteng City Region drives its programme to reduce transport-related carbon emissions.
