The need for a comprehensive analytical framework to diagnose, assess and monitor forest governance is widely recognised among forest stakeholders. The quality of governance often determines whether forest resources are used efficiently, sustainably and equitably, and whether countries achieve forest-related development goals. Poor forest governance has ripple effects and often reflects overall weakness in governance within a country, says this report by the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations.
