The Minister for Agriculture and Land Affairs has announced that Cabinet has approved the establishment of a Food Pricing Monitoring Committee as one of the strategies to deal with the problem of high food prices.

The Committee will be established in terms of the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act, No 47 of 1996, and the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC), which will advise the Minister for Agriculture and Land Affairs, will oversee its work.

The National Agricultural Marketing Council is therefore calling on interested individuals with expert knowledge in economic analysis, especially regarding the food chain, to submit names and CVs for consideration to be members of the Committee, The NAMC will appoint from the names received a Committee of 7 members. The deadline for the submission of CVs is Friday 6 December 2002.
