The Freedom Front Plus and the ANC today held talks in Johannesburg. The FF Plus delegation consisting of the party's Executive Management Members, was lead by Dr. Pieter Mulder, FF Plus Leader and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the ANC delegation was lead by Mr. Gwede Mantashe, the Secretary General.

Dr. Mulder described the talks as explorative but constructive. Where the meeting was planned to last one hour, it eventually lasted 3 hours.

Some of the issues discussed were:

• Place name changes;
• The use of Afrikaans as medium of instruction in schools and universities;
• Crime and safety and security of farmers;
• Amnesty issues;
• Self-determination;
• Poverty and affirmative action.

At the end of the talks a specific way in which the various issues which had been identified would further be dealt with, was agreed upon.
