"The suspension of six police members of the Hlobane and Vryheid police stations in the Vryheid district in KwaZulu-Natal is proof of double standards existing in the Police. The six members were involved in exposing a crime syndicate and had arrested various suspects. Robberies were committed in Gauteng and the stolen goods were then brought to the Hlobane area. Some of the goods were found on the suspects. The Provincial Commissioner of Police on KZN has suspended al six members in terms of regulation 13. This, after some of the suspects had complained that the police members had assaulted them. Through this action, their salaries and other benefits are also suspended until the investigation against them has been completed. None of the members have been criminally charged. These investigations can take months to be completed and has a devastating effect on the members and their families, as there is no income for the families," Mr. Pieter Groenewald (MP), chief spokesperson on Police for the Freedom Front Plus says.

"In the Western Cape a police member is found guilty of theft after he had stolen wheel caps at the scene of an accident but is still appointed as a station commander. It is actions like these that confuse police members as to what their actions should be. Police members should first be found guilty before their salaries are stopped. This decision gives rise to questions about the capability of the Provincial Commissioner, unless he has a hidden agenda. The Minister will be asked in writing to intervene in this situation," Groenewald said.
