"President Jacob Zuma's intervention to prevent the Chief Executive Officer of Eskom, Mr. Jacob Maroga, from being fired by the board of directors of Eskom, is unacceptable and an abuse of his power. This action of Zuma shows that he has no confidence in his Minister of Public Enterprises, Ms. Barbara Hogan, as she was in favour of Maroga being fired. Zuma owes all the people
of South Africa an apology," Mr. Pieter Groenewald (MP) chief spokesperson on Public Enterprises for the Freedom Front Plus says.
"The uncertainty about Maroga's position is not only damaging investor confidence in South Africa but is also the cause of the increasing job losses which can clearly be seen from the scrapping of the Coega project. It is already well-known that Maroga is incompetent for his position and his
own senior management is now turning on him and is requesting his resignation. If Zuma is serious about service delivery and job creation in South Africa, he should strengthen his Minister's hand to fire Maroga," Groenewald said.
