"The Minister of Police, Mr. Nathi Mthethwa, should suspend Gen. Bheki Cele until an investigation into the purchase of a R4 million house for Cele in Waterkloof, despite the availability of a suitable house for him, has been completed. Cele is known for his extravagant life style and it can definitely not be financed by the taxpayer," Mr. Pieter Groenewald, the chief spokesperson on Police for the Freedom Front Plus says.
"Minister Mthethwa should follow the example of his colleague, the Minister of Correctional Services, Ms. Mapisa-Nqakula, when she suspended her previous Director General in her department whom had done the same thing as Cele. There is a shortage of money in the Police to purchase sufficient numbers of motor vehicles, but R4 million is wasted on house to suite Cele's taste. At least twelve to fifteen new vehicles could have been purchased for the same amount which was spent on Cele's house. Through this visible policing could be improved and crime could have been combated," Groenewald said.
The Freedom Front Plus has submitted a question in Parliament to the Minister of Police, Mr. Nathi Mthethwa regarding this issue.
