The Freedom Front Plus welcomes Pres. Jacob Zuma's decision to launch an investigation following allegations regarding maladministration and mismanagement in the Tshwane Metro Council.
The FF Plus has for a very long time warned against the culture of maladministration and the wasting of tax money which is prevalent in the city's administration.
In 2008 the FF Plus submitted a complaint to the Public Protector regarding corruption and mismanagement in the city council. The FF Plus is satisfied that this complaint had contributed to an investigation which will eventually now be launched.
According to Dr. Conrad Beyers, FF Plus councillor and spokesperson on finance, it is a pity that the matter was not investigated earlier, at the time that serious allegations regarding the city's administration had emerged. "If the complaints had been investigated earlier, a lot of the abuse and mismanagement, and thus the massive wastage of taxpayer's money could have been prevented," Beyers said.
These latest allegations regarding mismanagement and corruption confirm the perception that large parts of the city's administration, including the ruling party, are rotten to the core. The FF Plus hopes that all guilty persons or groups will be punished.
The FF Plus caucus in the metro met with the new Mayor, Mr. Sputla Ramokgopa, on Monday 8 November. He assured the FF Plus that the Ntsebeza report regarding the city's mismanagement will be made available to city councillors shortly.
During the discussions, the Mayor assured the FF Plus that he will be eradicating the serious problems in the municipality, such as mismanagement. The FF Plus will closely monitor progress with this and the party will do everything in its power to contribute to a successful city in all respects, including clean and responsible management.
