"The FF Plus with great disappointment took note of the decision of Woolworths to no longer sell Christian magazines in their shops. This decision by one of the largest chain-stores in South Africa is short-sighted and discriminatory," Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus' Parliamentary spokesperson on Communication said.
"The Woolworths chain-stores are known to sell products marked as "Halaal" in terms of the Muslim faith as well as products marked as "Kosher" in terms of the Jewish faith. To now take the decision not to sell any magazines which are Christian based, is blatant discriminating against the largest faith group in South Africa," is the opinion of Adv. Anton Alberts.
"The FF Plus accepts that no private company can be forced to sell specific products. It however remains the right of consumers to insist on fair treatment which is non-discriminatory. The FF Plus will, in consultation with other organizations put pressure on Woolworths to change the chain stores' discriminatory and morally contestable decision to also accommodate Christian clients by selling their products," Adv. Alberts said.
