The FF Plus expresses its dissatisfaction with yet more shocking petrol price increases which South Africa can ill-afford. It will further impoverish the middle class and destroy food security. An increasing number of farmers can not afford to farm at the current energy input costs. That means only one thing, and that is that South Africa can budget for a hunger future with unknown conflict.
Just like Eskom tariff increases these fuel increases are a result of the government not planning ahead in making South Africa's energy requirements independent from the international world. That is why the government will urgently have to give attention to a holistic energy plan for South Africa which will also urgently address petrol and diesel needs. The weakening Rand which makes petrol and diesel more expensive should in some way be taken out of the equation and that would mean that we will have to look for answers ourselves. President Obama has just given the green light for oil prospecting and refining in American territories which had previously been prohibited. South Africa will in the same manner have to loosen itself from its dependence on Middle Eastern oil producers and start looking for answers within its own borders. The FF Plus would like to submit a suggestion in this regard to President Zuma and the Economic Planning Committee in order that the country's needs are properly addressed.
