The FF Plus has taken note of the Report on the Public Hearings with regard to Labour Brokers which was released to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Labour today. The report indicated that the FF Plus' approach to this issue is correct. According to Adv. Anton Alberts, FF Plus Parliamentary spokesperson on Labour, the party had earlier warned that the issue has to be approached in a balanced and unprejudiced manner and that the solution lies between the complete banning of labour brokers on the one hand and over-regulating on the other side.

The report underscored the approach of maintaining a balance and emphasized the fact that the labour field had changed over a period of time and this had given rise to new complex labour relations. The report furthermore acknowledges that a balance has to be found between the demands of skilled labour on the one hand, which seeks more flexible service contracts and that of the semi-skilled and unskilled labour which are looking for security.

"It was also made known that the Minister of Labour, Mr. Membathisi Mdladlana, would shortly be introducing a Bill to the portfolio committee which would amend the existing legislation to provide for a new approach. The FF Plus will study the new amendment bill in order to ensure that a complete scrapping on the one hand and over-regulating on the other hand is not made possible by the amendment of the legislation. The test will eventually be whether the amendments will assist job creation or whether it would inhibit it. South Africa cannot afford to suffer more job losses because the government's policy is unrealistic. We have to do everything in our power to try and promote job creation," Adv. Alberts said.
