The Freedom Front Plus today laid a charge of hate speech with the Equality Court against Julius Malema, ANC Youth leader, after he once again sang the song "Kill the Boer" yesterday. "It is already the second time that a charge of hate speech has been laid against Malema at the Equality Court due to his singing of the controversial song," Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus' parliamentary spokesperson on Youth Affairs said.

"The FF Plus leader, Dr. Pieter Mulder, earlier this month also lay a criminal charge against Malema after he sang "Shoot the Boere, they are all rapists" during a meeting at the University of Johannesburg. The Human Rights Commission had already in 2003 determined that the song "Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer" was hate speech. Despite this decision Malema goes ahead unhindered to propagate hate speech and incite violence against a specific segment of our community. Malema does it with the apparent approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ANC which defends him," is the opinion of Adv. Alberts.

Malema however went further in his speech which he gave yesterday in Mafikeng than just to sing the song and specifically referred to "Boere-journalists" which are trying to undermine him. It is well-known that when talking about Boere it refers to Afrikaners. Malema therefore singles out Afrikaner journalists as target for his hate speech and suspicion-mongering. In addition Malema does not heed any of the warnings of president Zuma which he made during his speech at the Pretoria Press Club in which he described the insulting of groups and individuals by ANC members as unacceptable.

"The FF Plus is of the opinion that Malema's behavioural patterns are starting to adhere to the description of enticement to genocide in terms of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide. The party is monitoring the situation carefully with the objective of reporting the issue with the UN Human Rights Commission for their intervention," Adv. Alberts said.
