Drastic steps will have to be taken to turn the process of financial suicide at the SABC around. According to Adv. Anton Alberts, Parliamentary spokesperson on Communications for the FF Plus, the Auditor General's report indicated that which television program producers and viewers have long been suspecting, i.e., that this organization is rotten to the core of its soul due to corruption and dubious business practices. Various television program producers have complained to Adv. Alberts about wrongful and non-payment by the SABC.

"Just like the Zanu-PF cadres of Mugabe who sucked Zimbabwe and its institutions dry, so also the ANC worms in the SABC had made a nest and they have left a hollow shell which now has to be rectified by the poor taxpayers. It is furthermore upsetting that the SABC is not the only modern institution in South Africa which is being plundered. One is only to think of the South African Police Service, the Landbank and Eskom for further examples. It is time that the ANC becomes serious about the decay of South Africa under its rule and counteract it," Adv. Alberts said.

The new SABC Board will have a lot of oversight work. The strategy to turn this situation around will however depend on the quality of the new SABC Board Members and the new SABC management. The leadership will, based upon the report of the Auditor General, have to see to it that strict measures are taken against anyone who had been part of the corruption, fraud and other dubious practices. In reality, the SABC will have to be cleaned up and all the catastrophic programmes of affirmative action and transformation will have to be given up for a program of transparency and responsible meritocracy.
