“The FF Plus has taken note of the announcement made by the chairperson of Sanral that its CEO, Mr. Nazir Alli resigned yesterday. The party expresses the hope that there will be better leadership at Sanral now which will interact with the public with greater transparency,” was the reaction of Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on Transport, to the announcement.
“Mr. Alli’s resignation raises the question as to what information about the e-tollgate system contracts, which had been awarded to the international companies which had also been involved in the government’s arms deal in 1999, he has. The fact that he will no longer be the CEO of Sanral does not exempt him from the responsibility to reveal all the information he has about the e-tollgate system contracts. The question could also justifiably be asked as to whether Mr. Alli is now being served up as being the only person who can be held accountable for the e-tollgate problem,” is the opinion of Adv. Alberts.
The FF Plus is hopeful that Sanral will appoint a new CEO who will offer stronger leadership that will interact with greater transparency and professionalism with the public in the fulfilling of his duties. It is necessary for Mr. Alli’s replacement to resolve the e-tollgate problem as quickly as possible and find a solution that is in the interest of the public and not in the interest of government or a political party.
