The FF Plus yesterday (22 February 2010) formally requested the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to investigate, as a matter of urgency, the income and true tax contribution in the past year of Mr. Julius Malema.
Malema has to date not provided any proper answer with regards to his income and lifestyle. The Sunday newspapers furthermore reported that Malema's companies had received government tenders to the value of more than R100 million. Despite this, Malema as per usual, sidestepped any questions and attributed this attention given to his financial position to the actions of his political opponents.
The fact however remains that this attention and questions directed to Malema are of cardinal importance due to the following considerations:
1. Malema is a public figure who makes controversial statements with regard to the way in which the lot of poor people could be improved and his personal life should in the same way show high moral standards and insight into the lot of poor people.
2. Malema wants to use communist instruments to see to his voter's interests, but he himself lives like a real capitalist.
3. All residents in the country, including Malema, are equal before the law and therefore have equal obligations to contribute to the revenue.
The FF Plus hopes to hear from SARS speedily in this regard.
