"The Cape High Court's decision that the Minister of Police, Mr. Nathi Mthethwa, has to, within 90 days, draw up regulations for the compensation of firearm owners who had handed their firearms in to the police, in terms of the Firearms Control Act, is welcomed by the Freedom Front Plus. The FF Plus had already in 2005 warned that the Minister is contravening the Constitution (media release attached). It will cost taxpayers millions of rand and the FF Plus calls on the Minister to recall or review the whole Firearms act", Mr. Pieter Groenewald (MP), chief spokesperson on the Police for the FF Plus says.
"The application by the Justice Alliance of South Africa (JASA) and the False Bay Shooting Club was in the interest of all firearm owners in South Africa and very praiseworthy. The previous Minister, Charles Nqakula's arrogance to questions of the FF Plus in Parliament, hereto attached, is now catching up with government. The government of the day can save millions of rand by taking decisive action and not to wait for court cases which force it to take action", Groenewald said.
