"The decision of the DA to kick the Freedom Front Plus out of the multi-party coalition government in the City of Cape Town, is short-sighted and an unwise decision. With this step the DA once again proves itself to not only be an unreliable but also a dishonest coalition partner", was the reaction of Dr. Corné Mulder, MP and the Western Cape leader of the FF Plus to the announcement of the leader of the DA.
"The DA's allegation that the FF Plus is now apparently part of an ANC coalition on a national government level is totally untrue and is based upon a blatant lie. It is the same DA who however gave the seat of the Speaker in the Oudtshoorn Municipality to the ANC and who is governing Prince Albert in conjunction with the ANC", was the opinion of Dr. Mulder.
The FF Plus has been a reliable stalwart of the multi-party coalition since the different opposition parties came together in the Metro Council after the local government elections in 2006. The DA and other coalition partners could consistently count on the support of the FF Plus.
"There has already been a fixed agreement and an undertaking by Premier Hellen Zille that the FF Plus would remain part of the multi-party coalition of the City of Cape Town. That agreement and undertaking has now been broken by the DA and by Ms. Zille. The FF Plus will tomorrow, 2 June 2009 at 12:00, during a media briefing in Room M529, Marks Building in the Parliamentary Complex, reveal the documentation which pertains to this agreement and Ms. Zille's undertaking in this regard", Dr. Mulder said.
With this step of the DA the creation of a broad opposition front has been given a set-back. It also increasingly appears that the DA does not believe in multi-party democracy.
