In the continuing post office strike debacle, a large group of its workers which render courier services, were only informed yesterday that due to a cash flow problem they will be paid late (only on 26 November), Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on Communication, says.
Adv. Alberts says it creates problems for many people as debit orders will be processed today already.
“It shows how dutiful and non-striking workers are suffering as a result of the chaos that striking workers and trade unions have caused.
“To make matters worse, many of the loyal workers are in a situation where they have to be satisfied with the annual increases they were given. The FF Plus’ information is that their increases were on average 2% lower than that of trade union members.
“With the current agreement of 6,5% which have been offered to striking workers, there is also great dissatisfaction and the view is that only those people who burn, break and strike are given good increases.
“The FF Plus has also been in formed that many of the senior white management personnel are taking early packages as they do not want to be exposed to the chaos and uncertainty. This loss of expertise will seriously limit the post office’s ability to recover and the payment of retirement packages will also place an additional financial strain on the nearly bankrupt organisation.
“It is truly doubtful whether the post office will be able to return to its original high levels of service delivery.
“Unfortunately it is the price that citizens are paying across the whole spectrum of service delivery in the country, due to the ANC government which is knowingly being controlled by its trade union alliance partners, at the expense of the country’s economy,” Adv. Alberts says.
