National power utility Eskom CE Brian Dames has been appointed to the executive committee of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
Eskom is one of only two African members of the WBCSD.
The utility reported that it sees the nomination of its CE onto the WBCSD executive committee as an important step in the advancement of Africa’s climate change contribution.
Dames said that the WBCSD has played an important role in shaping Eskom's strategic direction and allowed the company to benchmark its performance, share best practice and access resources in the sustainable development field.
The WBCSD is a 200-member strong global business association focused on providing business leadership as a catalyst for change towards sustainable development.
Membership of the WBCSD is by invitation of its executive committee to companies committed to sustainable development and to promoting the role of ecoefficiency, innovation and corporate social responsibility.
The WBCSD works with its members to develop and communicate the views of business and potential solutions to the international energy and climate challenge.
