No load shedding is anticipated today as Eskom intends to meet the country’s electricity demands while performing the requisite maintenance on its power generating plants.

Camden Power Station completes the trio of Eskom’s fleet of return to service power stations which also include Grootvlei and Komati.

The station resides in South East Mpumalanga near Ermelo and was fully commissioned in 1969. It was then mothballed over a period of four years from 1985. It was then returned to service between March 2005 and September 2008, in order to meet future energy demand.


The generation capacity post return to service can be broken down as follows:
3 x 200MW, 1 x 196MW, 2 x 195MW, 1 x 190MW, and 1 x 185MW, with a total of 1 561MW.

Since Camden’s return to service it has been known to set very high standards and scoop various prestigious awards.  In 2014 the Power Plant was awarded the international “Top Coal Plant” award for the best performing return to service project globally.
