The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni is urgently calling for the removal of the EFF-appointed MMC for Finance, Enterprise and Project Management, and Chief Information office, Cllr Nkululeko Dunga. This demand is fuelled by the severe financial turmoil and service delivery breakdown that the city has experienced under his leadership.

The evident incompetence displayed by MMC Dunga in managing this critical portfolio underscores the apparent lack of concern for the well-being of Ekurhuleni's residents and communities by the EFF and ANC coalition. The systematic depletion of the city's finances, previously in good standing when the DA left office, further emphasises this neglect.

The MMC for Finance plays a pivotal role in offering political guidance on the municipality's policy, budget, and financial affairs. Unfortunately, MMC Dunga has consistently failed to fulfil these duties, as publicly highlighted by the DA. We call for swift action by the puppet Mayor, Ald Sivuyile Ngodwana, who was appointed by the EFF/ANC coalition.

In light of recent developments, including the Auditor-General's report, and the complicit statement from the Office of the Executive Mayor, condoning incompetence, there is a glaring leadership deficiency in the municipality under the EFF/ANC government. The Executive Mayor's acknowledgment of the delayed Auditor General's report as merely frustrating for the Council's work is unacceptable.

The time for questioning and holding the executive accountable in traditional ways has passed. Mayor Ngodwana, it is time to put the residents of Ekurhuleni first.
