Title: Egypt: Mubarak: Sinai Day Liberation speech

President Mubarak made a TV recording to a speech commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Sinai Liberation Day.

Brother citizens,
I speak to you on a glorious day that will be eternal in the country's conscience, memory and sentiment. It will ever testify how great our people are.

Today, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sinai Liberation. We restored that dear part of our land after 15 years of occupation. Such an achievement will ever be engraved in our contemporary history as an endless source of pride and inspiration.

Sinai Liberation has turned down the sad page of 1967 defeat. Egypt's banner came again to fly high. Thus, our generations have to absorb the lesson.

That stage witnessed the defeat shock, loss of Sinai, occupation's humiliation, closure of the Suez Canal and destruction of its towns. It witnessed at the same time the steadfastness of the great people that backed its armed forces through long attrition war and heroic battle to restore our dear land.

Contrary to all expectations, our armed forces waged the liberation war and restored the honor of Egyptian military. They achieved the glorious October victory, raised the Egyptian flag high over "Barlev Line", avenged for 1967 war martyrs.

Then came the peace overture to open a new page in dealing with the Arab-Israeli conflict without yielding one inch of our territory.

Today as we celebrate Sinai Liberation Day, we keep the memory of war and peace hero: late President Sadat.

We greet our armed forces men as well as to a great generation who sacrificed over several stages and still is.

Brothers, sisters and sons,
Liberation of Sinai opened the way for similar political and economic achievements. We have already covered long strides in modernizing our society with political reform that reinforces our democratic structure, economic reform that opens the doors over the world and social reform that stands beside the poor people. We've overcome many hardships inside our country and defend our nation's causes.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I say again that Sinai liberation has proved the true strong essence of our people.

May God Almighty always keep our Egypt safe and secure.
