Title: Dowry: Update on fire-fighting efforts in Albertinia, Western Cape
STATEMENT BY WESTERN CAPE MEC OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT COBUS DOWRY ON UPDATE - FIRE-FIGHTING EFFORTS AT ALBERTINIA
2 Oryx helicopters are currently on the scene whilst the third helicopter is on its way to Albertinia to assist with a forest fire which is currently out of control and is burning on a 5km fire front and is burning fingers towards the game lodge.
The thatched roof factory's fire has been contained and the chemicals are safe whilst the other factory has burned to the ground.
Due to heavy smoke the N2 is closed for traffic from the Garden Route Lodge on the eastern side to Rietdak on the Western Side between Albertinia and Stilbaai. The provincial traffic authorities, SAPD, Provincial emergency medical services and private ambulances are on the scene.
Assistance is also being given by the SANDF/commandos with fire fighting.
A number of farmhouses have been evacuated.
The District Municipality of Eden and the municipality of Langeberg are assisting in the fire-fighting effort.
No casualties reported at present.
