The delegation will also attend the inaugural session of the Pan-African Parliament in the same city.
The Pan-African Parliament would be a common platform for African people and their grass-roots organisations to be more involved in discussions and decision-making about the problems facing the continent, said foreign affairs spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa.
The Parliament would consist of five members of each national parliament of the member states.
"It will promote the objectives of the African Union, including the promotion of human rights and democracy, good governance, transparency and peace security and stability in Africa".
The South African delegation includes the Speaker, Frene Ginwala; the Deputy Chair of the National Council of Provinces, Mnimwa Mahlangu; Harriet Ngubane of the Inkatha Freedom Party; Boy Geldenhuys of the New National Party; and Makhosazana Njobe of the African National Congress.
During the executive council of ministers of foreign affairs of the AU, which will take place before the inauguration, several issues will be discussed.
These include: - the socio-political and economic situation on the continent;
- the election of members of the Peace and Security Council;
- the operationalisation of the Peace and Security Council; and
- preparations for the launch of the Pan-African Parliament. – Sapa.
