The event also marks the commemoration of South Africa's 10 years of democracy and freedom.

Heads of State and Government, special envoys and FIFA bigwigs are amongst those in the country.

Heads of state who have arrived include President Alhaji Yahya Abdulaziz Jemus Jungkung Jammeh (Gambia), Vice-President Jag da Silva (Brazil), Robert Mugabe (Zimbabwe), Ricardo Lagos Escobar (Chile), Dr Nicholas Joseph Orville Liverpool (Dominica) and Gove-Gen Lapli (Solomon Island). - BuaNews
