The Minister of Human Settlements, Lindiwe Sisulu has handed over houses and title deeds to beneficiaries of the Lerato Park Integrated Housing Development Project. The project is expected to yield approximately 4 654 subsidized, institutional and bonded houses on completion.

"I am very impressed with the progress we have made here at Lerato Park and the community participation in the project. I have seen houses for military veterans, BNG and bonded houses and rental stock.

We are transforming our communities through integrated human settlements where the poor, and the rich live side by side”, said Sisulu.

“All contractors and developers who build houses for Government must make sure the houses are of the highest quality and if they fail Government must track them, recover the money and ensure that better houses are built”, said Minister Sisulu.

Sisulu added that Military Veterans, the elderly and people living with disabilities must always be prioritised.

“We have launched 48 government led catalytic projects across the country. Communities must be involved in ensuring that contractors employ local youth, women and also that training is taking place. We want communities to benefit from these projects", said Sisulu.

The Minister was in Kimberley on a national road-show to assess progress in the delivery of houses and also encourage communities to collect their title deeds at municipal offices.

The Minister was accompanied by Northern Cape MEC of Human Settlements, Mr Alvin Botes, Mayors and local councillors. The Minister will visit Kliptown on Thursday and delft on Saturday.
