Olver's five-year contract expired last year. However, Cabinet had extended it by another year.
Cabinet approved this request at its annual January Lekgotla held last week, to examine various elements of government policy as well as the implementation of the Programme of Action President Thabo Mbeki announced last year.
The meeting also received a progress report on the implementation of the Wild Coast Spatial Development Initiative, which seeks to unlock the economic potential of the Wild Coast while extending development from the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal to the Garden Route.
Government spokesperson Joel Netshitenzhe said part of the area constituted one of the Rural Development Nodes, and the focus had been on small, medium and micro-enterprise development in the tourism sector, road construction, establishment of a national park and other initiatives.
"Cabinet welcomed improved co-operation among the three spheres of government in the implementation of the initiative, and it approved both the vision of the Wild Coast as an eco-tourism destination and the structures required to realise this objective," Netshitenzhe explained. - BuaNews.
