Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe is scheduled to undertake an official visit to the United Republic of Tanzania on 8 to 9 July 2012, to participate in the O.R. Tambo Annual Educational Tour.

The purpose of the OR Tambo Annual Educational Tour is to carry forward the legacy of the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College (SOMAFCO) that stands as a heritage institution embodying much of South Africa's history in exile.

The Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College (SOMAFCO) is primarily known as an educational institution that was established by the African National Congress to cater for the educational needs of South Africa's young people who were forced to live in exile during the years of the liberation struggle.

SOMAFCO represents a monument of the solidarity between the people of Tanzania and the people of South Africa.

The Deputy President will be accompanied by Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Maruis Fransman, Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Dr Joe Phaahla, Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Mr Thabang Makwetla, and the Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr Gratitude Magwanishe.
