The Gauteng Department of Economic Development warns the public about an SMS scam doing rounds asking liquor license holders to pay renewals fees into an FNB bank account. The SMS reads as follows: “The message from the Liquor Board for payment of R250.00 for 2016. Payment is due before 1 September 2016 to prevent penalties or suspension…”
The department wishes to alert the public that it will never ask liquor license holders to pay renewals fees or personal information by SMS. Therefore, liquor traders are strongly advised not to respond to this SMS or any other scam and follow the standard procedures on license renewals which can be found on the departmental website www.ecodev.gpg.gov.za. The public is further urged to report such accidents to the police.
