Eskom declares Stage 6 loadshedding during Black Friday

Eskom has announced that it will implement Stage 6 loadshedding from 12:00 today to 05:00 on Monday.

The declaration came amid 'Black Friday', during which retailers experience a surge in customer activity as shoppers seek to take advantage of price specials.

The power utility attributed the escalation in loadshedding from Stage 4 to 6 to the loss of five generating units over the past 24 hours.

Oscar Pistorius gets parole, will be released from prison in January

Eight years after being sent to prison, Oscar Pistorius will be released on parole and will emerge to a different world when he is freed in January.

Pistorius fatally shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a closed toilet door on Valentine's Day in 2013.

His case was a highly publicised murder trial that ended in the former Paralympian being found guilty of culpable homicide.

After two State appeals, Pistorius was eventually sentenced to 13 years and five months behind bars for murdering Steenkamp, under the principle of dolus eventualis.

In a statement, the Department of Correctional Services said the board had considered Pistorius' profile and "other material submitted for the purposes of parole consideration".

SA to ask International Court of Justice to declare Israel an apartheid state

Not only did South Africa lay a charge against Israel for war crimes at the International Criminal Court, but it will also petition the International Court of Justice to declare it an apartheid state.

This is according to International Relations and Cooperation Minister Naledi Pandor in response to a parliamentary question.

Pandor said that South Africa and Palestine were currently working on formulating practical strategies towards taking up the Palestinian cause to the ICC and ICJ, both in The Hague, the Netherlands, to "declare Israel as an apartheid state".
