Gigaba to take Israeli visa regulations proposal to Cabinet

Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba says he will take a proposal he received yesterday regarding the status of visa regulations for Israeli citizens entering South Africa to Cabinet for consideration.

Gigaba met with representatives from the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement at his parliamentary offices following a mass march to Parliament.

Marchers took to the streets of Cape Town following the killing of at least 58 people by the Israeli defence force and the wounding of more than 2 700 who protested along the Gaza border on Monday.

BDS representatives asked Gigaba to review government's current visa agreement with Israel regarding entry into South Africa.

Inter-ministerial task team to brief media on North West

The inter-ministerial task team for the North West will brief the media on the preliminary findings report presented to Cabinet last week.

Communications Minister Nomvula Mokonyane last week didn't reveal details, but said the report provided "the preliminary work that has been done in the last two weeks".

Cabinet was satisfied with the progress made by the [task team] in its efforts to stabilise the province.

De Lille appeals to the DA to work together

Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille, who was yesterday temporarily restored to her position, says she will appeal to the DA to work together with her in the meantime after the party indicated that her return would be ceremonial.

The Western Cape High Court granted De Lille's urgent request for the temporary suspension of the DA's decision to cease her membership, pending a full review of the decision next Friday.

The DA released a statement immediately after stating that the court's decision was not in the best interests of the people of Cape Town, and that governance decisions would in any case be made by the DA caucus in the interim.
 

Responding to the DA's statement, De Lille said she simply wanted to work together with the party for the next 10 days for the sake of the City.
