President Jacob Zuma has told a gathering that it was time to put the interests of the ANC first because there was no place for violence in a democratic South Africa.

He was speaking at the ANC’s provincial manifesto launch at the Harry Gwala Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday where more than 40 000 people gathered to hear him speak.

Zuma said regardless who the candidate was they were all comrades, not enemies.

KZN’s provincial chairperson and newly sworn MEC for Economic Development, Sihle Zikalala said unity between the ANC and its alliance partners was of the utmost importance.

The province had been rocked by several killings which appeared to be politically linked.

Sentencing proceedings for former paralympian and convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius are expected to start in the High Court in Pretoria today.

Sentencing procedures had been set down for a week before Judge Thokozile Masipa, who originally sentenced Pistorius in October 2014.

In October 2014, Masipa sentenced him to five years behind bars after finding him guilty of culpable homicide.

The National Prosecuting Authority approached the Supreme Court of Appeal to argue that he should have been found guilty of murder.

The DA would write to the Public Protector and to the Independent Electoral Commission (or IEC) to ask them to investigate allegations on whether the ANC administration in Pietermaritzburg cut off the water supply on purpose so they could roll out water tankers feigning being a responsive government delivering services, the party said yesterday.

DA KwaZulu-Natal leader, Zwakele Mncwango, said this abusive conduct manipulated the most vulnerable people in South Africa.

Mcwango said again, the ANC had been revealed as an organisation that governs like black lives do not matter.

Also making headlines:

Zuma  said voting for another party would be wasting a vote.

And, Cosatu said no one should die to be a councillor.
