Prosecutions boss Mxolisi Nxasana and President Jacob Zuma struck a deal yesterday that Sunday would be Nxasana’s last day on the job, the Presidency said.

Zuma reached a settlement with the Head of the National Prosecution Authority in terms of which Nxasana would vacate his position as National Director of Public Prosecutions from 1 June 2015.

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Mashau Silas Ramaite, will act in the position from Monday.

An inquiry into Nxasana's fitness to hold office was abruptly cancelled on May 11 and the presidency has waited weeks to say anything.

The inquiry would have brought up his two previous convictions of assault, complaints of professional misconduct laid against him with the KwaZulu-Natal law society, criminal charges for acts of violence and his arrest and detention on criminal charges.

New Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to eradicate the "mindless, godless" militants of Boko Haram and rescue hundreds of women and children held captive. This includes 200 girls taken from the town of Chibok a year ago.

In his inaugural address as elected leader of Africa's most populous nation, Buhari also painted a picture of an economy in crisis after a collapse in the price of crude, which accounts for the bulk of state revenue.

He said the armed forces would be fully charged with prosecuting the fight against Boko Haram.

However, Buhari said they cannot claim to have defeated Boko Haram without rescuing the Chibok girls and all other innocent persons held hostage, adding that his government would do all it could to rescue them alive.

Friday's handover, following Buhari's election victory in March, was Nigeria's first democratic transfer of power.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (or EFF) want to take legal action against President Jacob Zuma, Police Minister Nathi Nhleko, Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi and the Cabinet for what it said was a legal breach of the constitution regarding the Nkandla matter.

EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said these parties have conspired to review, contradict and reverse the findings of the Public Protector which is an independent Chapter 9 institution.
Last week, Nhleko said that Zuma was not required to pay back any money.

He said the upgrades, which included a pool and cattle kraal slammed by opposition parties as lavish and wasteful, were legitimate security features adding that the State president was therefore not liable to pay for any of the security features.

Nhleko's report was contrary to Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's report ‘Secure in comfort’, released in March 2014, which found that Zuma had to pay back a "reasonable" portion of the money spent on upgrades not related to security.

The South African Communist Party said it would be a major strategic error to privatise Eskom in any way.

Turkish powerships group says it could inject up to 2 000 megawatts into South Africa within 18 months.

Fighting in northern Mali has forced nearly 60 000 people to flee their homes over the last four weeks, highlighting the lack of peace despite a partial deal being signed earlier this month.

Boko Haram insurgents attacked the outskirts of Borno state capital Maiduguri in Nigeria with at least 11 people killed in the fighting.

Algeria's main ruling parties are reinforcing their backing for ailing President Abdelaziz Bouteflika as lower world oil prices eat into the budget of the North African OPEC state.

And, the leader of France's far right National Front party said that a visit to Egypt to meet with the country's religious and political leaders had no effect on her views on Arab and Muslim immigration to France.
