DA MP Breytenbach expected back in court.
CAR votes to elect new president.
And, Zuma releases a guide for new era of state-owned entities.
DA MP and former prosecutor Glynnis Breytenbach and her lawyer were today expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on charges of obstruction and defeating ends of justice.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (or NPA), the matter related to an NPA investigation in 2012 in which Breytenbach was investigated for misconduct.
The NPA claimed Breytenbach allegedly shredded relevant papers and wiped clean her laptop while she was still the head of the organisation's specialised commercial crimes unit.
NPA spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku told a news agency that Breytenbach and her lawyer Gerhard Wagenaar refused to hand over her laptop which was believed to contain evidence related to the case.
Meanwhile, the DA stated that it would back Breytenbach.
Central African Republic (or CAR) citizens turned out to vote for a new president and a new parliament yesterday.
CAR’s second-round of presidential and parliamentary elections followed the annulment of the results of the first-round of voting in December 2015.
The annulment came in the wake of accusations of fraud and irregularities, including the alleged involvement of candidates.
The two candidates in yesterday’s running, Faustin Touadera and Georges Anicet Dologuele, who scored the highest votes last December, both pledged to restore peace and invigorate the economy as voting got off to a slow start.
CAR had been racked by civil war since Muslim rebels seized power in 2013 with the north-east mostly under the control of the rebels and Christians militias dominating in the south-west.
President Jacob Zuma released a report on Friday that would guide the state’s reformation of South Africa’s State Owned Enterprises (or SOE).
During his State of the Nation address on Thursday, Zuma announced interventions in SOEs based on the Presidential Review Commission on SOEs that he established in 2011.
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa headed the inter-ministerial committee responsible for the overview.
Zuma said for the state owned companies to contribute to the successful implementation of the National Development Plan, they must be financially sound, be properly governed and managed.
The report, which was initially deemed secret and for Zuma’s eyes only, had been published on the Presidency’s website for the public to explore.
