DA leader rejects UDM ultimatum on ousted Bobani

The DA leader  Mmusi Maimane  has rejected United  Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa’s ultimatum to quit the Ne lson Mandela Bay metro coalition if ousted deputy mayor, Mongameli Bobani, is not reinstated by Monday. 

After months of simmering political tensions, UDM member Bobani was voted out as the deputy mayor yesterday allegedly for making the coalition “unstable”.

Councillors from the opposition ANC and the EFF rejected the motion before walking out of the chamber.
Maimane said the UDM’s move sought to hold their co-government agreement to ransom.

TAC says SA's Aids plan does not fix infrastructure backlog

The country’s plan to fight Aids and TB does nothing to address the infrastructure backlog at health facilities, the Treatment Action Campaign said yesterday.

TAC's Vuyokazi Gonyela said at the organisation’s 6th national congress that some health facilities had no HIV-testing kits, which put into doubt the goal of reducing the number of new HIV infections to less than 100 000 by 2022.

She was criticising the National Strategic Plan for HIV, TB and sexually transmitted infections, which was developed by the SA National Aids Council and its chairperson, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa

And, MPLA leads in early vote count in Angola elections

Angola's ruling People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola party has a substantial lead in the country's parliamentary elections, based on provisional results, according to electoral officials.

With about 65 percent of ballots counted, the election commission that MPLA had won 64 percent of the votes in Wednesday's poll, followed by the main opposition UNITA party with 24 percent.

The MPLA has already claimed victory, saying it won a majority and that Joao Lourenco, the country's defence minister, would replace longtime President Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
