Court rules in Ramaphosa's favour

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has granted President Cyril Ramaphosa an interim interdict to stay Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's remedial action stemming from her investigation into a R500 000 donation to his ANC presidential campaign.

In her report, Mkhwebane came to the conclusion that there was merit to allegations of money laundering, including over R191-million which was transferred into the CR17 account between December 2016 and January 2018.

Ramaphosa then decided to take Mkhwebane's report, in which it was found that he had violated the executive code of ethics, on urgent judicial review.

Solidarity to take further action against former Eskom boss Molefea

Labour union Solidarity said it would take comprehensive steps to bring former Eskom chief executive Brian Molefe to account over his role in the struggling State-owned power utility's woes.

In a statement, Solidarity said the steps would include possible private prosecution by advocate Gerrie Nel from lobby group AfriForum and the possible seizure of Molefe’s assets.

The union said these steps are due to the National Prosecuting Authority’s failure to begin with prosecution, following the criminal complaint Solidarity lodged against Molefe.

Mashaba to launch new high density housing scheme

Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba and member of the mayoral committee for housing Meshack van Wyk will today break ground at the site of a new high-density housing scheme.

It said the development was on one of four sites zoned for high density residential projects and would comprise of 24 buildings consisting of two and three storey walk-up apartment blocks.

The council said the social housing development forms part of a mixed integrated housing development and will yield a total of 407 rental units.
