The judgment in the appeal against a court ruling that Janusz Walus, the Polish immigrant who assassinated SACP leader Chris Hani, be released on parole is expected to be made today.

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Michael Masutha, applied for leave to appeal the judgment which ordered the release of Walus.

Just two days after the 23rd anniversary of Hani's assassination, the application was filed, resulting in a vocal outcry by Hani's widow, Limpho, who expressed her unhappiness with the decision to release her husband's killer on parole.

Walus shot and killed Hani in the driveway of his Dawn Park, Boksburg, home on April 10, 1993.

The African Union Mission in Somalia, has welcomed an agreement reached by Somalia leaders on modalities for the implementation of the 2016 electoral process at a forum held in the capital Mogadishu.

The Somalia National Leadership Forum which began on April 9, concluded yesterday in Mogadishu.

The forum, hosted by Somalia President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, was attended by the Presidents of the regional states of Puntland, South West Administration, Galmudug, and Jubbaland.

In a communique read at the conclusion of the forum, the leaders agreed to establish uniform Election Implementation Teams at federal and state levels, to organise the upcoming elections.

Little more than 24 hours after the ANC in Gauteng asked President Jacob Zuma to "do the right thing", the party's deputy provincial chairperson David Makhura refused to entertain questions of clarity on the province's stance.

When asked by journalists in Carletonville what the Gauteng ANC provincial executive committee meant when it said in its statement on Tuesday "that Zuma should reflect deeply and do the right thing to resolve the unprecedented crisis that the ANC currently faces," Makhura said questions should be addressed to the party's spokesperson.

Makhura, in his capacity as Gauteng premier was engaging residents in West Rand yesterday as part of the Ntirhisano Community Outreach programme.

A branch member in Carletonville, who was part of the delegation that accompanied Makhura, said they were in full support of their leaders in Gauteng.
