Second blow for Zuma as court dismisses his bid to revive Ramaphosa private prosecution

Former president Jacob Zuma's attempted challenge to the invalidation of his private prosecution of his successor, President Cyril Ramaphosa, has been unanimously dismissed by a full Bench – with costs.

In a brief virtual sitting that was not attended by Zuma's counsel, advocate Dali Mpofu, Gauteng High Court Judge Lebogang Modiba said the Bench's ruling would be uploaded later today.

Ramaphosa had successfully challenged Zuma's attempt to launch a private prosecution against him for not instituting an inquiry into the former president's corruption prosecutor Billy Downer on the eve of the African National Congress's elective conference. The full Bench agreed with the president's assertion that the private prosecution was an "abuse" launched for an "ulterior purpose".

Presidency announces official funeral for Buthelezi

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi will be honoured with a special official funeral in Ulundi, in KwaZulu-Natal.

Buthelezi passed away on September 9 at the age of 95. His funeral is expected to take place on Saturday.

Along with serving as the Founder and President Emeritus of the Inkatha Freedom Party, Buthelezi also served as the first Minister of Home Affairs of the democratic South Africa.

Ramaphosa has indicated that flags will be flown at half-mast at flag stations around the country from today until the evening of funeral.

Stage 6 overnight, with higher stages of loadshedding all week

Stage 5 loadshedding will continue until 4pm on Tuesday - followed by Stage 6 overnight until 5am Wednesday, Eskom said in a statement.

This comes as four generating units have gone offline.

Eskom said this pattern of implementing stage 5 loadshedding from 5am to 4pm and stage 6 loadshedding thereafter will be repeated daily until Friday morning.
