I note the intervention of Gauteng Human Settlements MEC, Paul Mashatile, in the suspension of evictions in Hammanskraal in the absence of Mayor Ramokgopa, but I now challenge Mashatile to immediately suspend the ANC councillors fingered in the Hammanskraal land allocation corruption.

The fact is that the violence experienced this week lays squarely at the ANC’s feet. Housing allocations and distributions in Hammanskraal are mired in fraudulent and corrupt activities by ANC councillors.

Mashatile, as Provincial Chair of the ANC, cannot allow his councillors to be involved in illegal land allocations that bring about such unrest, and he must act immediately to suspend them, investigate their conduct and fire those guilty of causing so much pain to the people of Hammanskraal.

I have repeatedly stated that the violence which engulfed Hammanskraal this week is symptomatic of how the ANC government in Tshwane has bungled the distribution of RDP houses and stands have been hijacked by the corrupt. All fingers point to ANC councillors in this corrupt theft of our people’s housing chances.

With this is mind, I have written to Mashatile demanding suspension and an investigation into the ANC councillors who have been implicated in Hammanskraal.

The community has been left reeling after violence this week. Those who are to blame for the housing crisis must face the full extent of the law.

Where the DA governs, we are committed to rooting out corruption and ensuring the fair allocation of housing opportunities coupled with the issuance of title deeds. The DA promises greater transparency and accountability in the awarding of RDP houses and this has been proved in the municipalities we govern.

The DA’s Manifesto for Change details our plan to replace the ANC with an honest government that will stop corruption, deliver better services, and most importantly, create jobs. A government that will not make empty promises but deliver results.

The DA is set on winning Tshwane in order to bring to the City the change that residents deserves.
