The Democratic Alliance (DA) notes the report released by the Gauteng MEC for Local Government on the state of Gauteng municipalities. The report, press conference and accompanying statement is a gratuitous attempt to use public office to further the ANC’s political agenda. The report is entirely political, not objective and misrepresents the facts. The MEC used the opportunity to try and discredit Midvaal and its excellent service delivery track record. That track record has been recognised by the Gauteng province as the best in the whole of Gauteng. Midvaal has also received recognition from the national government as having delivered excellent services, to all residents of Midvaal. The ANC is getting desperate and is using every means at its disposal to desperately try and detract attention away from its own failings. The DA’s track record in Midvaal is well documented, extensive and without parallel in Gauteng (see www.thedadeliverydaily.com for further information).
The MEC announced that the province will be sending 1000 toilets to Midvaal on Thursday. The DA welcomes this initiative. Midvaal requested those toilets over a year ago. It is sad that it took an election and the ANC’s political desperation for the province to finally deliver on that request. Nevertheless, we welcome it; it will help improve the lives of Midvaal’s citizens.
The MEC also used the opportunity to attack Cape Town, a clear indication that this event was political as Cape Town has nothing to do with the state of Gauteng municipality. The MEC also suggested that bucket toilets had been eliminated in Gauteng. This is not true, as a visit to Freedom Square in Kliptown will reveal.
The DA will continue to talk about service delivery in this election of which Midvaal is an outstanding example. The ANC’s obsessive, disingenuous and entirely political ploy to try and discredit Midvaal does hold up when weighed against the evidence
