During procedures to elect the chairperson of the Helderberg municipality today, the Freedom Front Plus sided with the ANC to elect Andre Fourie, an FF+ member, to the Chair.
This move shows that the FF+ is now owned lock, stock and barrel by the ANC.
The process of selling itself to the ANC began before the 2009 national election, when FF+ leader Pieter Mulder called for a "legal settlement" between the National Prosecuting Authority and ANC president Jacob Zuma.
The FF clearly knows it has no real place in the national debate because it does not have policies on anyreal issues or make inputs on any of the major problems affecting South Africans. It is a single issue party whose support has been falling steadily since 1994.
They had the choice today to form a pact with the other opposition parties. They made the choice and they must live, and probably die, with it.
