The findings of an investigation by an independent task team into irregularities at the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), were presented yesterday to the Minister of Transport, Sibusiso Ndebele. We now call on the Minister to release this report publicly as soon as possible and to take the appropriate action without delay.

According to the Minister of Transport, the task team found cases of irregular expenditure, unauthorised use of eNaTIS transaction fees and inappropriate procurement procedures. The Minister stated that he will present the recommendations at the next RTMC shareholders committee meeting, scheduled for August. We welcome the fact that this matter is now firmly on the agenda, after more than a year of delays, but we also believe the minister must go beyond that, and make the findings of the report public immediately.

In July 2009 the DA called for this investigation to take place. We later also reported this matter to the Public Protector.

Following the welcome completion of the task team's investigation, an unequivocal message must be sent out to those that misappropriate or mismanage public monies.
